Fsck

“fsck -yf ~/relationshipsfor your address book. Every Sunday at 4am, while you sleep and your emotional filesystem is safely unmounted, we walk your inode tree and find every orphaned promise (“we should grab lunch” from March 2023), every dangling symlink (that guy you owe a follow-up), every cross-linked directory (your therapist and your work friend accidentally met at the same bar), and every bad block (your dad). Unrecoverable relationships are quarantined to lost+found. Force option -fruns while you are still mounted — not recommended, they can feel it.”

The Problem

Your social graph is an ext4 partition that has not been checked since 2017. You keep power-cycling (moving cities, changing jobs, one bad breakup) without a clean shutdown. Every unclean umount leaves another orphaned inode: a text you never replied to, a birthday you forgot for three years running, a friend whose kid is somehow eleven now. Your journal is corrupt. Your superblock thinks you have 400 friends; df says four.

The Solution

A background daemon that waits until you are fully REM, remounts your social filesystem read-only, and runs a five-pass consistency check. Pass 1 walks your inodes. Pass 2 checks directory structure (family, work, exes, group chats). Pass 3 re-links the orphans to lost+found. Pass 4 scans for bad blocks. Pass 5 recomputes free space so you finally know how many friends you actually have (spoiler: four).
